Our Grade 2 Music Theory course is perfect if you already know the basics of reading music and want to take your theory knowledge further. Whether you’ve done Grade 1 or picked up some music theory along the way, this course will help you build confidence and deepen your understanding.
It’s still beginner-friendly, but we’ll start to explore more detail – ideal if you’re aiming towards Grade 5 Theory or simply want to feel more at home with written music.

Who is this course for?
Grade 2 is for learners who already know the basics – things like simple note values, treble/bass clef, and a few scales. You don’t need to have taken Grade 1 formally, but it’s helpful to be comfortable with beginner-level theory before starting. Recommended for children aged 7/8 and above, or for adult learners.
What do I need to do the course?
You’ll need:

The ABRSM Discovering Music Theory Grade 2 book (so you can follow along and practise between classes)
What if I can’t attend one of the sessions?
Don’t worry – all sessions are recorded and shared with you. You’ll be able to catch up in your own time if you miss a class.
When can I take the exam?
The ABRSM Grade 2 Theory exam is available on demand through the ABRSM website. This means you can book and take it at any time after completing the course, whenever you feel ready.
